Conversation

Grey opens up conversation with:
So not that I'm in any way suicidal but......

WHAT?!

Jesus

My fourth block class is very familiar with the fact that Jesus and I get along. One of my girls yesterday asked, Mrs. L, why are we here?
I said, "To learn math."
She said, "No, why are we HERE here"
I said, "I can give you the Jesus answer, you want that bad boy?"
She just giggled. :)

Subway

I had to pick up dinner tonight so Subway was the decided choice.
Not having Grey there, I decided to get him a meatball sub on parmesan oregano with provolone cheese, toasted with oregano.

He came home and said that it was perfect, just the way he liked it.
Success!

I said, "ok bud, your turn. I'm not with you - what would you get me?"
He said, "ham and cheese with light mayo and banana peppers."

Um gross and a fail in every department. I told him that he wasn't allowed to ever go get me a sub.

My preferred choice: Turkey on wheat with pepper jack, spinach, tomatoes, olives, jalapeno peppers, and vinegar.

Fail. Big fail.

pillows

I finally recovered the pillows on our couch.

Known as the awful beachy looking couch but oh so comfortable thing, this was what the whole thing was previously covered in.

Awful, right?

We got a slip cover for the couch when we got married and I picked out material that was brown with a tiny blue paisley pattern. I covered one pillow in March and pretty much refused to cover the rest of them. I finally figured out why. I hated the fabric! Our living room is done in blue and brown, but there is way more brown than blue. So today I went to Joann's on a mission - find new material.
I did! :) And I love it!!!! They're almost complete...I just have to figure out how to sew them shut. Yay!

My next project - see what you think and feel free to leave comments. Make a comforter cover that has this pattern

I really like the red bird fabric for the big center piece

And I'm thinking about using either a dark brown or black quilted fabric along with this.

Watcha think? or should I go with either one of these?

Hello Wednesday, my "first" day with my new students

Up on the board is a powerpoint showing
"Information to write about yourself on a notecard"
1. Name and block number
2. Phone number
3. Parents names and contacts
.......etc

I had a student today who raised their hand and said, "What is name and block number?"

Stop. I'm done. When is summer? :)

Hello Tuesday!

Oh! Why am I blogging at 10:40 am on a Tuesday? Shouldn't I be at school?

I got fired.

JOKES!

Yours truly woke up in the wee hours of the am yesterday puking her guts out. I got up 4 (1-2-3-4) times during the night and each time, tripped over the cardboard box in our room, walked around the bed to Grey's side where the bathroom is, turned on the light, shut the sliding door, puked, turned off the light, opened up the sliding door, walked back around the bed, managed to not trip over the box, and got into bed (FOUR TIMES) without my dearest love even waking up.

Either:
1. I'm just that talented
or
2. Grey just doesn't care (jokes) and is the heaviest sleeper I've ever met.

When he woke up around 10:30 yesterday morning and I told him how exciting my night was, he proceeded with "Is there something wrong with me considering that I didn't wake up at all?" I responded with, "Um yes."
That's love folks.

Anywho! You should know that as I'm sitting here still a tad achy, there are a few things that I'm pondering:
1. Today is the first day of the new semester and I'm not there to set my oh so high expectations for my students.
2. I have a wonderful sub setting the tone for me instead.
3. The internet was down at school so my sub didn't manage to get anything that I sent her until after first block had started. Thankfully I've got some really amazing women looking after me.
4. My pee was orange this morning - like Clemson orange. I just thought you should know. At least I peed though - the one time I tried to drink water yesterday, it violently came back up.
5. Grey and I have several packages coming in the mail.
a. Fish food
b. two more Cricut cartridges (I told you, I'm addicted to ebay...)
c. TWO TERVIS TUMBLERS! We're slightly addicted. Mine has Mickey and Goofy in Braves uniforms (GO BRAVES) and Grey's has Yoda (from Star Wars) on it.
6. Since I'm home, I'm trying to get some things done that I should have gotten done yesterday (cooking, planning for school etc)
7. I was so cold yesterday (no fever) and couldn't warm up (my temp dropped down to 96) that I decided to take a hot bath... Only our bathtub is bipolar - either it will burn you with the hot water or the water will only be luke warm. It's sketch. I was so mad that yesterday was a "luke warm" day so Grey was a trooper and boiled like 6 pots of water and poured it in the tub to warm me up. Once again, that's love.
8. What movies should I watch? I'm currently considering The Proposal, Parent Trap, It Takes Two (yes that is a Mary Kate and Ashley movie - it's the best one they have, don't judge), or The Swan Princess.

Here's to no more orange pee! :)

A new semester

My original plan was this:
*Make it through my second year teaching
*Come January, immediately proceed with new job possibilities

The plan right now? Esh. I have no idea. I have moments where I think, "Dude. I want...no need something different to do." And then I have moments (albeit brief) where I think, "I think I'm really happy where I am. I have so many encouraging woman around me. I want to stay here another year."

So that's where I am. I'm gradually becoming more at peace with staying where I am for another year which is actually a little shocking to me, but once again, we'll see what happens!

The new semester starts on Tuesday. New semesters always freak me out for a couple of reasons.

1. I'm weird and the kids aren't used to my weirdness. Ask any of my students from previous semesters. They'll all agree that they thought I was the weirdest thing ever, yet by the end of the semester, they couldn't get enough of me. :)

2. You have to learn your students all over again. Even though I had some kids that I won't miss QUITE as much as others, ;) I still knew their personalities. When one came and laid his head down on his desk, I knew to not mess with him because it would end up being ugly for all involved. I had a couple of kids that when they were having bad days, I could actually talk about the hope that we have in Jesus because I knew that they were believers. I had a sibling of a student that I had taught previously that I've been praying about for almost a year now. I gotta learn that all over again and man oh man, it takes energy.

But. It's worth it. I gotta remember that I may be the only Jesus loving freak that they encounter every day and I gotta make sure that they see it. I had a kid write me a 2 (front and back) page letter saying how much he had learned from me outside of math. I had another girl tell me on the last day that she felt like I was the first teacher that was actually her friend (not in a nondisciplinary way).
**I absolutely loved this girl - quick story - She came into my room one Monday morning when class was getting ready to start and I asked her how her weekend was. She said that she had a good weekend and that Friday night, she ended up talking to this really cute boy (that she didn't know) and while they were talking, he asked her to go to his car with him just so they could talk some more. SHE AGREED.

At that point, I stopped what I was doing and stood in front of the entire class and said, "LISTEN UP!" I proceeded to explain (to the entire class) the dangers of going ANYWHERE with people (in particular men) that you didn't know. "Don't get into their cars. This is how you get kidnapped and raped. It doesn't matter if they're cute or not. It doesn't matter if they say they need to get something. THIS IS HOW BAD THINGS HAPPEN"

:) The boy that wrote me the letter was in that same class and he actually mentioned that in his letter. "I won't ask women to go into my car. I won't get into a woman's car that I don't know." hahahahahah.

I love it. Here's to the new semester! Hopefully I'll be able to grace your presence with lots of funny stories!

Cricut

So I got a cricut for Christmas. If you don't know what one is, it's basically a computer like machine that cuts out really fancy stuff.
Ie:

You have to buy cartridges (with specific things on them) in order to cut out the thing that you want. For example, I bought a Sesame Street cartridge that allows me to cut out all the Sesame Street characters for Nora. They have cartridges for everything - weddings, cupcake wrappers, every season, every sport, monsters, PAPER DOLLS...everything. The problem with these cartridges is that they cost upwards of 60-90 bucks each.
So yours truly has solved that costly problem. I have become addicted to.....

EBAY! If you win, you can get them really cheap! I got my Sesame Street one for 11 bucks. I refuse to pay more than 15-16 bucks for each one and I've actually won a couple. I won a paper dolls one last night. I've bid on no joke 15 different paper dolls cartridges trying to win them and last night, I found the trick. Not many people are bidding on Ebay on a Saturday night and BAM! I finally won me one. Now I can make Nora all these cute paper dolls with costumes for her next birthday present! I'm so excited.

My next couple of projects? Buy some vinyl and cut out some wall decorations for our house. :) I'm so excited.

Extra Pickles

On a more serious note, I've been begged by many of my students to stay at Hillcrest next year. When they've asked what I'll be teaching next fall, I've been honest with them in the fact that I'm trying to figure out exactly what's going to happen. The thing is that no matter where I end up, I know God is going to use me. If I end up leaving, it won't be like I'm irreplaceable - the Lord will provide someone else who will love those students. How do you decide what's best for you when you're being pulled in one direction but precious 16 year olds are pulling you in a different direction? How do you separate your needs from theirs when your needs aren't really needs, it's just that you're trying to figure out what career will make you happy? Is that selfish of me to want a career that will make me happy? What if I'm placing too much hope on "my next career" as being the one that will never have bad days? I know that everyone has bad days and everyone runs across people that you won't get along with but what if my heart is aching for that perfect unrealistic job and I can't get a right perspective/outlook on things? What if I've found my job already, it's just that I'm expecting a little piece of Heaven down here on earth and since that's not happening, I've decided that I must search elsewhere?

I promise I won't drag you down with loaded posts for at least the next couple... :)
Please pray for me and let me know if I can ever be praying for you...

New Year's Eve Resolution?

Naw...How about a New Year's 2012 Bucket list!!!!!

1. Keep our little family still down to just...two. :)
2. Run the Cooper River Bridge Run. The last time I did this, I was just a little crazy about "diet" and exercise and this year, I'm bound to do it right - lots of running and lots of stuffing my face. :) Bring it on.
3. Make friends. I'm not off to a great start. There was a girl today at church sitting all by herself. Only one person introduced himself to her during the greet time so I decided to introduce myself after the service. I went up to her and said, "Hey! I saw you sitting here alone so I wanted to come meet you and welcome you to our church" She responded with, "oh, well, I've been going here for 5 years. My parents are working the nursery so I just came out to hear the sermon"
Fail. I seriously already had planned in my mind that she would come over and eat lunch with us and we'd be hanging out later that week. I cried afterwards and told Grey I wasn't ever talking to anyone new again.
4. Don't let my hormones get the best of me...see #3.
5. Finish sewing covers on my dagone pillows
6. Did I already mention that I'm starved for female attention?
7. I still want to pull an all nighter. That one stems from college. In order to do this though, I have to be allowed to nap until 8:00pm that night. No nap=no staying up late. I also have to have a couple days to recooperate afterwards.
8. I already watched 27 episodes of Raising Hope...CHECK!

And...that's all I can think of!
Happy New Year!!!

New Year's Eve Grub

Course 1: Momma's collard and black eyed pea stew - Grey said, "I think this is the best thing you've made all year."

Course 2: Little smokies and cheese sticks

Course 3: Make your own calzones!

Happy New Year!
